Beaded Gecko by The Bead Shop Nottingham ltd

hi it’s Emma at The bead Shop in Nottingham and today I’m going to be showing you how to make this really cute beaded
lizards or beaded geckos this one here on the left it made us a size 3 Czech
grass seed bead from are opaque mix he’s quite cute using estarán cord and this
one on the right and is made from a plastic pony beads this is the one I am going to show you how to make today so the first thing you do is get the cord we’re going
to use a 1 millimeter chord this is the satin cord in purple and you need about
a meter of it and you can use other types of chords like a wax cord as well
would work you are going to see your cord so choose your color wisely get
your first bead and thread it on and get it to the middle of your cord ok so
you can see it is in the middle there this is going to be the head or the nose we’re
going to work downwards to make the rest of a Gecko for the next row you want to
take two pony beads and take your right thread through both of the beads at the
same time and then take your other threads it on the left hand side and
pass that the other way through both of the beads okay so they cross over in
these two pony beads then pull the ends what makes this little triangle shape
that’s the beginning of our geckos head or nose now for the next row you want to
take three pony beads we’re going to do exactly the same thing I’m going to take
the thread that’s on the right and thread the pony bead on and then
there on the end there take the left-hand thread and take that from left
to right so the threads cross over pull those tight against it the triangle like that
and then for the next row we’re going to take two of our pony beads and
we’re going to do the same thing again so that right hand thread goes right to
left and the left hand thread goes left to right it doesn’t matter what order you do, you can do the left side first and then the right it accomplishes the same
thing okay so that’s actually our geckos little head done so if I bring this one
back in you can see it’s got little legs and that’s a bit we’re going to do next legs and feet are done in a slightly different way to start out we’re
going to the leg and I’m going to take three beads to the leg and I’m just
going to do the left hand leg and foot first
so thread your three leg beads on onto just one of the threads and then you
want to get three beads for the foot and thread those on to the same side and then skipping those three green
beads you’re going to take the cord back through those three leg beads so all the
way through and try and keep those three legs beads clear near to the head as
you can and when you pull it tight little foot adorable so going to do the
same on the right hand side so you want to give get three pony beads to the leg
remember just working on the one cord at moment so thread those three pony beads
on for the leg and slide those down and then you want to take three for the foot
and thread those on and skipping those three green beads you’re going to take
the cord back through in the opposite direction through those three leg beads that this two front legs done you know
so I’m just kind of tightening everything up and making sure that
everything is even seen it’s a good idea to do it at this point just to make sure
everything’s neat and tidy so now we’re going to come down and do the rest of
the body so take a couple of your Pony beads for the body I’m doing the same color
as I did for the legs but you can do yours in whatever color you want. I don’t know why iI picked up so many beads I only need two the residue of your pony beads we’re
going to go back to see I do on both sides this time so two beads on that
right hand thread and then take the left hand thread the opposite way through so
they are crossing over pull tight lovely and then for the next row we’re going to go
back to doing three beads same thing again take the right hand thread right
to left and the left hand thread left to right through the beads and cut them
tight next row is four beads the left hand thread goes
through them in the opposite direction and pull the two threads tight beginning to look like a gecko next row is another four beads same thing that right hand
thread goes right to left through all of them the left thread going left to right
pull it tight next row is three beads you think how quickly this works up
reason take any time at all and then the next row has got two beads on there and
it’s almost time to do the rest of the legs so you final to be to the body as
it is in the same way and pull it tight okay so that’s a body done now we need
to do the back legs same process as before three beads for the leg and then
another three beads for the foot there’s my three for leg it doesn’t matter
which side you do first really doesn’t matter thread using one thread this time it
take your three leg beads onto your cord like that and then get your three foot
beads and add those on and then skipping those three foot beads go back through
the three leg ones and pull it tight and again just make sure that everything is
kind of sitting correctly and is nice and neat and tight brilliant just one more foot and leg to go another 3 beads for the leg and another 3 for the foot skip three foot beads and go back
through the leg beads you should have got this by now so we go you’ve got
four legs slowly and then just to finish it off I’m just going to do another row
of two where we cross the threads over just bring it together before we start
going into the tail now the tail you can make it as long as you want so I’m using
a meter of the one mil cord here and that means I can do about six beads for
the tail and the tail is just a single bead where the threads cross over so I’m
just taking one single bead the right thread is going right to left and that
left hand thread is going left to right and pull tight so if you wanted to make a gecko with a
really long tail you might need to cut yourself a little bit more than the one
meter that I did but I can manage to fit think about 6 on here that’s four
if you can fit one more on there yeah that will work, that looks like a good tail
to me and that is your gecko done all we need to do to finish it off
just give it a bit of a stroke I hope this isn’t and I look a bit odd but it
just means that all the beads and sort themselves out and make sure that the
tensions all okay and then just tie an overhand knot in the end so just taking
the two ends together I’ve got one slightly short end shorter end than the other
here so it may be slightly more difficult but you get the idea is just to
stop all of the beads coming off and there’s a gecko
